Why should teachers and students of writing consider sexuality in a networked classroom? A networked classroom allows students to all participate in an anonymous fashion on an online forum, which is easily accessible. This also helps ease the difficulty of hot button topics because online there is no fear of it getting violent, it’s only words. It gives a safe place for everyone to express their thoughts and feelings. This is a great place to start when testing out what might be a conducive, productive class discussion.

Alexander does not provide an in-depth study like Shepherd does. How could his piece have benefited from a structure like Shepherd’s? Statistics are always a welcome support in any academic discussion or piece of writing. The reader being able to see that research was conducted and that it supports the argument will always strengthen the piece in the eyes of the reader.

How is his argument kairotic? This piece is timely because sexuality is starting to color more of our society and daily lives.

What is his exigence? The reason behind this piece is to bring attention to the potential of bringing sexuality into the classroom. Students need a safe and open place to research and talk about such a heated topic.

How might his identity shape his argument? With Alexander being gay, this gives him a personal stance on the issue. He understands the pitfalls and the advantages of opening class discussion to sexuality debates.
